WHAT
IS VBR?
Development
and preservation of the human voice is essential for success in
any performance-based art form. Proper breathing technique is
essential for the development and preservation of the human voice. We proudly introduce a new, groundbreaking, manual therapy called Vocal Biomechanical Rehabilitation (VBR)!
For performers'
voices to work at the highest level of efficiency, the muscular
structures related to the mechanism of breathing must be functioning at optimal capacity.
Due to overuse and various postural faults that are common to the human population, the accessory respiratory muscles lack the ability to function at optimal capacity. Anything outside of a flawless posture will cause additional tensions to be placed on all muscles connected to the spine. ALL of the muscular structures that support the mechanism of breathing have attachment to the spine! A forward head posture, uneven shoulders, and
rounded shoulders are three examples of postural faults that create
additional stress to the mechanism of breathing (breathing technique).
Tension in the
respiratory system places additional tension on the laryngeal system
and the vocal cords. Chronically dysfunctional breathing muscles have an increased physical demand, which may directly affect vocal
stamina. Because of the undue stress placed on these muscles, tension
is increasingly transferred to the vocal cords. Stress on the vocal
cords may lead to premature hoarseness, tiring and swelling of muscles
in the neck region, decreased quality of vocal pitch and tone, and
the cumulative effects of micro trauma to the vocal cords that may
cause problems in the long term for the vocalist.
In order to
assure OPTIMAL breathing technique, VBR takes specific breathing muscles, individually reconditions them by addressing the length, strength,
and tone of these muscles. Thus, increasing
the endurance/stamina of these muscles. VBR restores proper function
to the physical structures supporting the mechanism of breathing. This will allow ENHANCEMENT of BREATHING TECHNIQUE, so performers can work
longer and harder, vocalize better, and recover faster. This is
a powerful tool to optimize anyone's performance capabilities!
